May 2, 2022 (Woodstock, NY) In celebration of the Juneteenth National Independence Day holiday, Maverick Concerts and the Rosendale Theatre Collective present a special LIVE production of FINDING NORTH by David Gonzalez at the Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main Street, Rosendale on Friday, June 17 at 7 pm. Admission is by donation. To reserve seats and review the Rosendale Theatre Covid policy:  www.rosendaletheatre.org. FINDING NORTH is family friendly, best for ages 12 to adult. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment of the Arts.

Written by David Gonzalez, FINDING NORTH is a one-man play drawn from historical research and oral histories that bring to the stage powerful stories of the African American Underground Railroad hero, John P. Parker, as well as contemporary American immigrants. “Finding North is a celebration of the ongoing quest for freedom and justice in the United States,” commented Gonzalez. “I believe it will have a powerful impact on all who see it. America has had many heroes that are, unfortunately, not as widely known as they should be. Finding North tries to help change that for John P. Parker.”

Originally written to celebrate the opening of Cincinnati’s Underground Railroad Freedom Center, FINDING North has been revisited and updated through the collaboration of David Gonzalez with performer/director Daniel Carlton. Carlton will captivate the audience with his one-man performance of John Parker and all the other characters, while accompanied by Gonzalez playing blues guitar. The piece concludes with a dynamic audience talk-back.

Maverick Concerts, America’s oldest continuous summer music festival, has been presenting outstanding musicians in the performance of classical, jazz, world and folk music in the historic, acoustically unique, Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock, NY since 1916. Music Director Alexander Platt said, “Maverick Concerts is thrilled to have an opportunity to reach out beyond our concert hall to partner with the Rosendale Theatre Collective.”

The Rosendale Collective operates the historic Rosendale Theatre as a vital and diverse cultural Hudson Valley nonprofit organization, using the power of film and live performance to entertain, educate and inspire connection.
