Based in Chicago, Illinois, the American Chamber Music Society is the creation of Eric Gratz — as the former Concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony, the youngest concertmaster of all the major orchestras in the United States — who recently relocated to Chicago following the Orchestra’s closure. Having quickly established the Society as a force to be reckoned with in the competitive classical-music scene of the Chicago Loop, ACMS is now well-known for its bringing together of some of finest young virtuoso musicians in America, creating world-class performances of the chamber-music repertoire in an engaging and delightful atmosphere. In another bespoke program created especially for the Maverick Concerts in this most American of seasons, Eric and his colleagues team up with Reed Tetzloff — the young pianist who thrilled our audience with his complete rendering of all of the Fauré Impromptus in 2024 — to present not only two cherished masterpieces from the string quartets of the Romantic era, but also the equally beautiful Piano Quintet of that Edwardian-era composer of the “Boston School” Arthur Foote, and the first Woodstock hearing of the brief but luminous piano quintet of Sarah Lawrence emeritus professor Chester Biscardi, who will join us for the performance. And as our one Evening Postlude of the year, Reed Tetzloff revives his acclaimed recording of what is truly one of the monuments of American music, Charles Ives’ “Concord Sonata”. A monumental day of music at the Maverick, not to be missed!
REED TETZLOFF
Reed Tetzloff’s recent seasons are marked by a series of landmark recording projects on the French label Aparté. In 2025, he launched a major collaboration with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Luxembourg Philharmonic, releasing a critically acclaimed disc of the Grieg and Schumann concertos (highlighting a rare intermediate version of the latter). Their collaboration continues in November 2026 with the release of the third concertos of Prokofiev and Bartók. Tetzloff has also recorded the cycle of the Beethoven Piano Concertos with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra under Paweł Kapuła. The first volume earned five-star reviews in Diapason and Classica, with the full cycle set for release as a box-set ahead of the 2027 Beethoven anniversary.
This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
